From dreading the phone to mentoring the next person through EmployAble’s door.
Ollie identifies as neurodiverse, with learning challenges, and he was one of the first people to walk through EmployAble’s doors, back in November 2024.
By then, he’d already been job hunting for a long time, without much luck. Ollie was very reserved, and the ordinary mechanics of a job search — cold calls, phone interviews — felt especially hard when speaking on the phone made him uncomfortable. The usual advice, just pick up the phone, wasn’t much help.
What made the difference was how practical EmployAble’s support turned out to be. Not vague encouragement, but real structure: tasks broken down into steps, and someone checking back in to make sure each one actually got done.
